Hello! I'm Valarie a Florida based artist.
I create paintings using oil, acrylic, and watercolor to express the beauty I see in the world, inviting viewers to experience familiar subjects in new and transformative ways. For me, painting is not just a creative outlet but a therapeutic practice—one that allows me to explore the relationships between people, places, and things that bring joy and healing into our lives.
Recently, I have found joy in watercolor portrait sketches, which have allowed me to explore the delicate interplay of color and form in capturing the essence of individual personalities. This practice has deepened my understanding of expression and has brought a new dimension to my work. Whether in the spontaneity of a portrait or the layered richness of an abstracted landscape, I aim to create art that speaks to the viewer’s heart, inviting reflection and connection.
Drawing inspiration from my own surroundings—a little pink house nestled in the historic district of Ocala—I seek to capture the vibrancy of everyday life through color choices, varied brushstrokes, and a layering process that adds depth and intrigue. Each painting is a reminder that healing, growth, and renewal are always within reach.Through my work, I hope to encourage others on their own journey toward freedom, love, and the ability to embrace their true selves. As I continue to evolve as an artist, I remain committed to discovering new ways to express the beauty that sustains and inspires us all.
Biography
Originally from NY, Valarie moved to FL in 1993 after completing her MS in Speech Pathology. While Primarily working in the education field, she pursued creative endeavors on the side to maintain a long time love of creating, drawing and painting. As a recent 'empty nester', she began taking her art more seriously devoting time to courses, consistent effort to practice, hone skills and find her voice. The creative journey is ongoing and Valarie is excited to see the way it continues to grow.
